Idruna Remote Editing System a success at World Economic Forum
Swiss Image uses IRES to get their images online over an hour before world agencies thanks to optimized workflow.
Davos, Switzerland, January 27th 2008 -- Idruna Software Inc. is pleased to announce that the Idruna Remote Editing System (IRES) was a resounding success for Swiss Image, the official photo agency of the World Economic Forum. IRES runs on an Ultra Mobile PC such as the OQO model 02/E2 or select Windows Mobile phones, and allows an editor to see what her photographers are shooting in real time, from anywhere in the world.
"We love it because we don't have to rush out of sessions to our computers and edit the pictures." Said Andy Mettler of Swiss Image. "During the sessions we are able to instantly choose a quick pre-selection of the pictures using the "SET" function of the Canon EOS-1 Ds Mark III to specify which images the editor sees".
"The editors in our external editing office connect to the Idruna Remote Editing Server. They love to watch the live thumbnails. The editors add a caption and crop the image online, so after about a minute the picture is finished on the online photo base. If the webteam of the Forum needs a fast picture they can have it online at www.weforum.org within about 2 minutes after the picture has been taken. Technically it would be possible to reduce it to 60 seconds or less..."
"I'm often using the HSDPA feature of the OQO model e2 at my belt. This allows me to use the fast Swisscom HSDPA net, when the local WLAN is overloaded by hundreds of participants, or if I am shooting outdoors beyond the WLAN range."
"Photographers from other agencies at Davos are more and more concerned when our WFT-E2 blinks green while Condoleeza Rize or other top shots on the panel deliver a speech. Green means to them that our pictures will be available within a few minutes on the web."
"The world agency photographers did not know that there is a much faster workflow available with the Canon WFT-E2 and IRES. In fact thanks to this workflow our pictures are online and available for internal and media use much faster then everybody else. But the great thing is for me as a photographer: I stay in the session as long is it make sense. I don't miss something because I'm sitting on a computer to edit pictures and I just go to the next session. When the day is over I have covered more sessions then ever. That's it. My day is shorter (no editing until midnight), I can concentrate on better pictures and my pictures are online earlier (WEF teams are very surprised and pleased about the speed). We have feedback from papers that they are wondering why we are so much faster then the agencies. Online media are often using our pix because of that factor."
"Our other photographer got a pre-installed camera and had a short introduction of about five minutes. He would never go back to old workflows if he could. He still feels in charge of selecting pictures because is can do a wide pre-selection. This is not only important due to psychological reasons, it also helps the editors. We are processing about 4000-6000 pictures per day, so pre-selection is important to avoid overwhelming the editor."
"I believe that the IRES workflow together with the OQO model e2 with HSDPA and Canon 1Ds Mark III cameras are ready to be used at the EURO2008. If it works at the biggest political/economical event of the World with the most crazy schedule and chaotic situations, it will work at this big sport event."
